The Tree Plant is now at the location of Chadron State Park located 10 miles south of Chadron, Nebraska.

October 13, 2018

We will be planting 2000 Ponderous Pine Tree Plugs with better survival rate of 93%.  Planting will have more emphasis on planting these trees in sheltered and shaded areas to give them the best protection.  This is why we will be planting fewer trees and taking much more care in doing so.

We would like to ask all Troops to bring 2 cordless drills and battery packs to be used with an auger bit to drill a hole in soil for the seedling to be planted in after the soil is cleared of grass and prepared for.  We will have these augers available for you to use as well as 1 Mattock scalping tool to clear grass away in each tree plot.  We would like the troops to bring some form of a dowel at least 3/4 inch in diameter to be used as a tamper to lock the tree in place after setting the seedling in the pocket prepared by the auger. We will also have the tree spades available to be used also to plant trees.

We are asking all troops to pack a sack lunch this year so that we can stay at the plant sites till all the trees a planted before returning to the camp sites.

All Scouts will be able to earn the SOAR Patch for the service of 3 hours and receive the Chadron State Park Tree Plant Patch.

As in the past camping will be free to all who attend and there will be a Saturday evening meal served to all that participate. This year Chadron State Park is asking for the Park Permit fee of $6.00 per each troop or pack. Not per vehicle.

There is limited cabin rentals for those that may want them.  The only other option is to motel it in Chadron, NE.  Information about Chadron State Park can be found on web page.

Hope to see everyone there!  So start planning for this fall event.  It is truly a fun event to be camping and giving back a Good Turn for Conservation.
