The course provides Scoutmasters and Assistant Scoutmasters with the basic information and tools they need to lead successful Boy Scout troops. Completing this training, Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills (IOLS), and Youth Protection Training qualifies Scoutmasters and Assistant Scoutmasters as “trained” for their position.

To be considered “Trained” as a Scoutmaster or Assistant Scoutmaster, you must complete the following:
- Youth Protection Training. Available online or as a live course at some training events.
- Scoutmaster Position Specific Training. Course is available online or a live course (single day event or as two evening sessions).
- Introduction Outdoor Leader Skills Training. Course is available as a full weekend event (Friday-Sunday), or as a mid-week classroom session (usually Monday or Wednesday) followed by a short weekend event (Friday-Saturday).
