Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills (IOLS)

Provides leaders with practical skills needed to lead Scouts outdoors and teach the basic skills required through the First Class rank. Completing this training, Scoutmaster Position-Specific Training, and Youth Protection Training qualifies Scoutmasters and Assistant Scoutmasters as “trained” for their position.

*** The Fall 2017 IOLS course scheduled for Oct 9th, & Oct 13-14, has been cancelled. ***

Details and registration for the Spring 2018 IOLS course will be published about two months before course start date of April 9th, 2018

Important Notice

To be considered “Trained” as a Scoutmaster or Assistant Scoutmaster, you must complete the following:

  • Youth Protection Training. Available online or as a live course at some training events.
  • Scoutmaster Position Specific Training. Available online or as a single day event or as two evening sessions.
  • Introduction Outdoor Leader Skills Training. Course is available as a full weekend event (Friday-Sunday), or as a mid-week classroom session (usually Monday or Wednesday) followed by a short weekend event (Friday-Saturday).
