Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills (IOLS)

Provides leaders with practical skills needed to lead Scouts outdoors and teach the basic skills required through the First Class rank. Completing this training, Scoutmaster Position-Specific Training, and Youth Protection Training qualifies Scoutmasters and Assistant Scoutmasters as “trained” for their position.


  • $20.00 due at first night of the training


  • Classroom Portion is Monday, April 9, from 6:30 – 9:00 pm.
  • Camping Portion is Friday April 13 at 7:00pm through Saturday, April 14, 6:00pm.
  • NOTE: Both sessions must be completed.


  • Classroom Portion is in the Community Room at Outlets of Loveland, 5661 McWhinney Blvd, Loveland, Colorado.
  • Camping Portion is at Camp Soaring Eagle, Ben Delatour Scout Ranch, 2331 County Rd 68C, Red Feather Lakes, Colorado

Important Notice

To be considered “Trained” as a Scoutmaster or Assistant Scoutmaster, you must complete the following:

  • Youth Protection Training. Available online or as a live course at some training events.
  • Scoutmaster Position Specific Training. Available online or as a single day event or as two evening sessions.
  • Introduction Outdoor Leader Skills Training. Course is available as a full weekend event (Friday-Sunday), or as a mid-week classroom session (usually Monday or Wednesday) followed by a short weekend event (Friday-Saturday).
