View Council and District Events in YOUR Web-Based Calendar

Our online Council and District calendars now create standard ICal format files which can be viewed in other (eg web-based) calendar programs.

  • Google Calendar - Use the Google links below to easily add our Council and District event calendars as linked calendars to your Google Calendar.
    Google Calendar Problems (Nov 16, 2012)
    Google is not correctly syncing our calendar files and is showing incorrect dates for some events. Google knows that they have a problem and they are working on it. There is nothing we can do to correct the dates they are showing in the Google calendars.
    The online calendars on our council and district websites are correct, so please refer to them for accurate dates.
     
  • iPhone/iPad/iPod touch and Other Web-Based Calendars -- If your Calendar program supports linking to ICal format calendars on the web, you can use the URLs of our ICal files (below) to view Council / District events.

Important Notes

NOTE: You really want to LINK to these calendar files, you DO NOT want to IMPORT these events into YOUR calendar. If you import, all the events are copied into YOUR calendar as your events, and they will not get updated if the event changes on the Longs Peak Council website.

NOTE: We have organized our online calendars to have non-training events in one sub-calendar and training events in a separate sub-calendar to allow us to show, for example, all Council and District training events. Since you probably want to see both the training and non-training events for your District and for the Council, you will need to add both types for the Council and for your District.

Google Calendar

You will need to set up a Google account to use Google Calendar (see calendar.google.com).

These links will add Council and District sub-calendars as linked Calendars to your Google Calendar:

   

Notes:
Once you have added the calendars, you can toggle their display on/off by clicking on the calendar name in the lower left column of your Google Calendar on your desktop.
In your Android phone, start the Calendar app, click Menu Button > Calendars, and select which ones you want synced and displayed.

In OUR Online LPC/District calendars, clicking on an event will take you directly to the web page for the event (if there is one). When you are viewing the Google Calendar, clicking the event brings a pop-up box, then you have to click on Details to bring up a bigger pop-up box, then click the Description Event Name link to get to the event's web page.

Our ICal files update immediately when changes are made to our online calendar, but Google Calendar only checks the file periodically (every few hours or once a day?) so the changes will not show up immediately in your Google calendar.  

Other Calendars

If your web-based calendar supports linking to ICal format calendars, you can use these URLs to allow you to see Council and/or District events.

For iOS devices (iPhone, iPad, iPod touch)

  • Start the Settings app:
    • Under Settings, select "Mail, Contacts, Calendars"
    • Under Accounts, select "Add Account..."
    • Select "Other"
    • Under Calendars, select "Add Subscribed Calendar"
    • In the Server box, input subscribed calendar (from list above) in this format: "longspeakbsa.org/calendar/lpc_events.ics"
    • Select "Next"
    • Consider turning "Remove Alarms" to ON
    • Select "Save"
    • Exit the Settings app
       
  • Start the Calendar app
    • Press Calendars button
    • Enable the calendars that you have subscribed
