- Approved Merit Badges are listed on the Hornaday Award applications.
- Venturers do not complete merit badges, but they do complete Venturer requirements as listed on the Hornaday Award applications.
- Projects to be completed are to be of "Eagle Scout Award" project quality.
- The project's main focus must be to help the environment and not humans.
- The Eagle Scout project may be used as the project for the Hornaday Badge, and as one project for the Bronze and/or Silver Award, IF the project meets Hornaday Award project criteria.
- The Hornaday Badge project may be used as one of the projects for the Bronze or Silver Award.
- Registered Boy Scouts have until their 18th birthday to complete award requirements.
- Registered Venturers have until their 21st birthday to complete award requirements.
- Each award candidate must have an adult "conservation adviser".
- Each project must be from a different listed conservation category listed on the award application.
- Only one project for any award may be done on Scout property.
