Leave No Trace Trainer - Junior Leadership Position
- Effective January 1st, 2010 - Leave No Trace Trainer is a new junior leader position which qualifies as a leadership position for Star, Life and Eagle rank advancement (and for Venturing leadership requirements).
Leave No Trace Trainer - Responsibilities
- Teaches troop/crew and patrol members the principles of Leave No Trace.
- Ensures that the troop/crew follows these principles on outings.
- Improves Scouts' outdoor ethics decision making skills.
- Helps Scouts earn the Leave No Trace Awareness Award.
Leave No Trace Trainer - Qualifications
- Has a thorough understanding of and commitment to Leave No Trace.
- Has completed the (16-hour) Leave No Trace Trainer training.
- Ideally - has earned the Camping and Environmental Science merit badges.
- Is appointed by the Senior Patrol Leader with approval of the Scoutmaster (like most other Troop junior leader positions).
- Note - a Scout who wants to help teach Leave No Trace in his Troop but who has not completed the 16-hour LNT Trainer training can serve in the Instructor junior leadership position.
- Note - The Leave No Trace Trainer leadership position is a youth position, not an adult position. Adults are encouraged to become Leave No Trace Trainers (by completing the LNT Trainer training), but they DO NOT wear the LNT Trainer position patch.
