Welcome to the Adventure West Council

Spanning Northern Colorado, Western Nebraska and most of Wyoming the Adventure West Council  provides service for youth from age 5 to 21. The purpose of the Boy Scouts of America, incorporated on February 8, 1910, and chartered by Congress in 1916, is to provide an educational program for both boys and girls, as well as young adults to build character, to develop character, integrity and leadership in today’s youth through quality programs, outdoor experiences, and service to community.

It is the vision of the Adventure West Council to Prepare today’s youth for future success..

In May of 2021 Greater Wyoming and Longs Peak Councils merged and are now Adventure West Council.
Spanning Northern Colorado, Western Nebraska and most of Wyoming. The Adventure West Council of the Boy Scouts of America provides programs and outdoor adventures to prepare young people for a lifetime of character and leadership.

New Golden Plains District Executive

Adventure West Council, Boy Scouts of America, is excited to welcome Ian Squires!

You may recognize Ian if you visited Camp Buffalo Bill, where he served on camp staff. We are excited to have him on-board and welcome him to the team.

Ian previously worked with the Council at Yellowstone High Adventure Outpost, having served as Director since 2021. He is excited to continue serving youth through his work as District Executive and hopes to strengthen and expand the Scouting program in his area.

Ian is originally from Louisiana, but considers Riverton, Wyoming to be his hometown. He studied Music Education at Louisiana Tech University before attending the National Outdoor Leadership School. Having gained expertise in education, leadership development, and outdoor skills, Ian is equipped with a unique perspective that will help him achieve his goals as a District Executive.

Youth Protection- Barriers to Abuse Update Effective Sepetmber 1,2023

[(Effective September 1, 2023) Two registered adult leaders 21 years of age or over are required at all Scouting activities, including all meetings. There must be a registered female adult leader 21 years of age or over in every unit serving females. A registered female adult leader 21 years of age or over must be present for any activity involving female youth or female adult program participants.

The Boy Scouts of America’s (BSA) emergence from bankruptcy represents a pivotal milestone in the BSA’s financial restructuring case and solidifies a path forward for survivors and the Scouting movement. To preserve its mission, the BSA has taken extraordinary steps over the past three years to reposition the organization for the future. The national organization has streamlined its professional staff and volunteer structure, reducing costs throughout the movement while maintaining essential services to support the local councils who were critical partners during the bankruptcy. To position Scouting for the future, the BSA will be required to increase the national annual membership fees for both youth and adults. This has been a difficult decision that involved the engagement of key stakeholders, but is essential to building a strong, safe, and vibrant Scouting program for our nation’s youth. Effective August 1, 2023, the BSA will implement the following national membership

Troops for attending Adventure West Council Camps in three consecutive years!

1. Attend BDSR/CBB/CLP or YHAO or EHAB consecutively and get the lowest priced camp fee of the consecutive years attended (2023-2025).

2. Attend BDSR/CBB/CLP or YHAO or EHAB in any combination in 2023, 2024 and 2025 for 3 consecutive years and receive a framed set of camp CSP patch collection to display in your troop meeting room.
